How to get discount amtrak tickets

If you are in a specific age group, a member of various organizations or just like to save money when travelling, you are qualified for discounted rail fares from Amtrak. Some of the discount tickets are based on affiliation or age, e.g. for military personnel or seniors. Others, like students, veterans etc. qualify based on their membership in a specific organization.


We will present you the three easiest ways to make use of discount Amtrak tickets and how they work.

1. Per phone
If they order per phone seniors and military members don't need any further actions to get the discounted tickets, they just have to identify themselves as those to Amtrak. All the others have to name their membership identification number and purchase their fares at least three days in advance of travel.

2. Per Internet
As also by ordering per phone, military personnel and seniors only have to select their respective type of passenger at the Amtrak website, then the discount will be applied automatically. All other passengers need to present valid identification, enter their respective membership identification number and have to book at least three days in advance.

3. Per Promotional Code
Occasionally there are promotional codes and fare specials offered by Amtrak. Sometimes those codes only get you discount tickets on specific routes and rail fares, but some even are general. Some are only available if combined with a purchase from partner business. We won't go into detail about the booking procedures here, because they vary by promotions.
